ILLITERACY PROBLEM IN BANGLADESH
Introduction:
Education is one of the basic rights of a nation. But it is a mother of regret that the majority People of our country are illiterate. We cannot expect any development of our country keeping the huge number of people illiterate. So, education for all is the crying need in any country.
Definition of illiteracy:
Illiteracy means the inability of reading, writing, or understanding. Illiteracy is a curse because it is illiteracy that lowers the length of human beings to the level of the physical. Illiteracy is a great social evil because it creates various kinds of social evils and vices against social progress and development. It is the main cause of ignorance, superstition, backwardness, poverty, and so on.
Reasons:
Poverty is the main cause of illiteracy. There are other causes too. Overpopulation, financial and resource constraints, people's superstition, and negative attitude toward education, lack of awareness, etc. are responsible for illiteracy. The colonial regard as physical of legacy, and nonappearance of full of zip govt. policy are two added major causes of illiteracy.
Bad effects:
An illiterate man is unaware and unconscious because he has no knowledge. Due to illiteracy, an individual cannot distinguish between right and wrong. They in addition to remaining unaware of their rights and responsibilities. This adjacent door to of inability and unawareness are liable for various individual and social backwardness. Illiteracy generates hundreds of problems. Because of the illiteracy problem in Bangladesh, people do not know how to make money well and how to spend well. As a result, people can not rescue from the problem. Child-labour and child marriage and the high growth rate of the population are also the causes of illiteracy. People cannot improve their economic condition because of illiteracy.
Reasons for Illiteracy in Bangladesh:
Bangladesh is a developing country. Her rate of literacy is about 71. The major portion of her people is illiterate. For this reason, she cannot make development in any field. An illiterate nation plays no role in development work; because they cannot make any plan, profile, and design of it. Literacy helps a nation develop in all respects. It provides people taking into account knowledge, intelligence, the space of education, and the capacity of detecting right or wrong. The steps of removing illiteracy: Illiteracy is a serious and complex problem. Some proper steps can be taken to remove this such as:
i) Every family will have to send his child to school.
(ii) Compulsory primary education system will have to be taken.
(iii) We shall have to finance poor and talented children.
(iv) Adult education program will have to be made forceful.
(v) Farmers will have to make educated or literate. Then our agriculture system will be developed.
(vi) Governmental and non-governmental staffs are to be adopted to make the illiterate people of the country literate.
(vii) In this regard, broadcasting media can play an active role.
(viii) Actually students will have to advance in removing illiteracy.
Conclusion:
Education is light, ignorance is darkness and illiteracy is a curse for any nation. We are a free nato. We like to live with honor and dignity. We do not want to grope the darkness with the curse of illiteracy on our heads. Let us all go ahead to make our country prosperous with the light of education.
